LSG: Family Planning: key to economic stability.... as TCI addresses documentation gaps in FP in 2025

Proper family planning based on economic capacity by spacing pregnancies to recover health-wise and financially in a way that the woman would have rested enough before the next pregnancy is the way to go.

This will give time for family self-care, and financial stability.

The advice was given by the Chairperson, Interfaith Public Health Advocacy Lagos, Dr. Ajoke Ashiru, at a meeting put together for journalists by the FPLagos Media Advocacy Forum, supported by TCI, where it spelt out the organization’s efforts to increasing family planning uptake.

“If you can take care of three children, no problem. If it’s two, plan wisely so that it doesn’t negatively impact your family’s health or finances,” she advised

Deputy Director, Health Education, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mrs Esther Samuel, who gave details of government efforts at promoting family planning through training, community outreaches, and provision of essential consumables noted that, the ministry run jingles on radio and television from time to time, conduct health outreaches, and train healthcare workers to ensure quality services.

" These initiatives aim to increase awareness and encourage uptake,” Samuel explained.

On it's part, the Challenge Initiative (TCI) outlined the importance of community mobilization, training, and demand generation in promoting sustainable growth in family planning (FP) awareness and adoption across Lagos State saying that, TCI had done a lot in that regard.

According to the State Programme Manager, Dr. Omotunde Odanye, “We have conducted extensive community mobilization to ensure greater acceptance of family planning in Lagos.

" A lot of mobilizers have been trained, and their capacities have been enhanced to engage with communities effectively, adding that, " Demand generation is critical, but it must be matched with adequate supply, which is why we ensure there are no stock-outs of family planning commodities across facilities,” Dr. Odanye stated.

TCI's strategy focuses on deploying trained mobilizers to areas with the greatest need and integrating family planning education into other health services.

According to Odanye, “Mobilizers engage women accessing other health services, educating them about family planning options. " If a woman decides to adopt a method, she can immediately access the service.”

Efforts also target those who may delay their decision. “Even if the decision is postponed, the women leave with accurate information and resources to access services when they are ready,” Odanye added.

Highlighting the initiative's broader impact, Odanye noted, “Our mobilization efforts often extend beyond our supported facilities. A woman might receive a referral in one location but end up accessing services elsewhere.

This according to Odanye demonstrates the far-reaching effects of our community engagement and media campaigns.”

Part of the highlight indicates that, TCI partnered with local health committees, educators, and media organizations to address misconceptions about family planning.

“We work with voluntary health committees, social mobilization groups, and media platforms like television, radio, and social media to ensure accurate information reaches the public,” Odanye explained.

Despite significant progress, sustaining the gains remains a priority, stating , “We’ve seen remarkable improvements in family planning uptake, but we must intensify our efforts to prevent any decline.

The safety and well-being of Lagos State depend on it,” Odanye emphasized.

As TCI looks to 2025, it plans to build on its success by addressing documentation gaps, supervise service delivery, and ensure measurable results. “Our strategies are effective, and we intend to sustain and improve them to achieve even greater results next year,” Odanye stated.

NCC Approves Tariff Increase for Telecom Companies; To Take Effect from January 2025

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved a long-awaited increase in telecommunications tariffs, bringing to an end over a decade of lobbying by major operators such as MTN Nigeria, Airtel, and 9Mobile. The new rates for calls, SMS, and internet bundles will take effect in January 2025, with tariffs expected to rise by up to 40%.

Under the revised structure, call charges will increase from ₦11 to ₦15.40 per minute. The cost of SMS will rise from ₦4 to ₦5.60, and a 1GB data bundle will now cost at least ₦1,400, up from ₦1,000. The NCC has promised to provide more details in an upcoming official announcement, emphasizing that these adjustments balance industry proposals with public interests.

“This will benefit both subscribers and operators, as we have considered feedback from all stakeholders,” stated an NCC spokesperson.

Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, recognized the need for this adjustment, citing economic pressures during a recent interview on Arise TV. Meanwhile, the NCC is mindful of not overburdening subscribers, having previously rejected a proposed price hike from Starlink in October 2024.

This tariff increase comes at a time when food inflation stands at 39.93%, raising concerns about potential reductions in internet usage in a country focused on digital inclusion. However, the financial strain on telecom operators has been significant, with MTN Nigeria reporting a loss of ₦514.9 billion in the first nine months of 2024, following a ₦137 billion loss in 2023. Additionally, Airtel Africa faced $89 million in losses for FY 2024, mainly due to challenges in Nigeria.

Gbenga Adebayo, President of the Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), supports this tariff increase. He argues that cost-reflective tariffs will encourage investment and enhance service quality over the long term.

Press Release: Niger Republic’s Military Leader’s Allegations Against Nigeria Are Baseless - FG

Press Release

Niger Republic’s Military Leader’s Allegations Against Nigeria Are Baseless - FG

The Federal Government of Nigeria strongly rejects allegations made in a viral video by the military leader of Niger Republic, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, claiming non-existent collusion between Nigeria and France to destabilize his country.

These claims exist solely in the realm of imagination, as Nigeria has never engaged in any overt or covert alliance with France - or any other country - to sponsor terrorist attacks or destabilize the Niger Republic in the wake of the undemocratic change in the leadership of that country.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), as Chairman of ECOWAS, has demonstrated exemplary leadership, keeping the doors of the sub-regional body open to re-engaging Niger Republic despite the political situation in the country. Nigeria remains committed to fostering peace, harmony, and historic diplomatic ties with Niger.

Nigeria’s Armed Forces, in collaboration with partners in the Multinational Joint Task Force, are succeeding in curbing terrorism within the region. It is, therefore, absurd to suggest that Nigeria would conspire with any foreign power to undermine the peace and security of a neighboring country.

Neither the Nigerian government nor any of its officials has ever been involved in arming or supporting any terror group to attack Niger Republic. Furthermore, no part of Nigeria has been ceded to any foreign power for subversive operations in Niger Republic. We reiterate our full support to senior Nigerian government officials for their untiring commitment to fostering peace and security between the government and the people of Nigeria and Niger and for their efforts towards stronger cooperation in the ECOWAS region.

Indeed, Nigeria has a long-standing tradition of safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Unlike some nations, Nigeria has never permitted foreign powers to establish military bases on its soil. This demonstrates our commitment to national independence and regional leadership.

The accusation that Nigeria seeks to sabotage Niger’s pipelines and agriculture is both unfounded and counterproductive. Nigeria has consistently supported Niger’s economic development through joint energy and infrastructure projects, such as the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline and the Kano-Maradi Railway Project. It is illogical to suggest that Nigeria would undermine initiatives it has actively promoted.

The claims about the alleged establishment of a so-called Lakurawa terrorist headquarters in Sokoto State, purportedly orchestrated by Nigeria in collaboration with France, are baseless. Nigeria has been a regional leader in combating terrorism, dedicating significant resources and lives to ensure stability in the Lake Chad Basin and beyond.

Recently, the Nigerian military launched Operation Forest Sanity III, specifically addressing the Lakurawa threat, Code Named Operation Chase Lakurawa Out. How can a government actively fighting the Lakurawa menace now be accused of harboring the same group within its borders? These accusations lack credible evidence and seem to be part of a broader attempt to deflect attention from Niger’s internal challenges.

The public is urged to disregard these false allegations. Those making such claims, particularly the Military Leader in Niger Republic, must provide credible evidence to substantiate them. Any attempt to blackmail Nigeria over ECOWAS’s principled stance against the unconstitutional seizure of power in the Niger Republic is both disingenuous and doomed to fail.

In conclusion, President Tchiani’s allegations are not only unfounded but also a dangerous attempt to divert attention from his administration’s shortcomings. Nigeria remains committed to fostering regional stability and will continue to lead efforts to address terrorism and other transnational challenges. We urge Niger to focus on constructive dialogue and collaboration rather than peddling baseless accusations.

Minister of Information and National Orientation,

Federal Republic of Nigeria.

A fire has destroyed a section of the plank market in Lagos.

Fire on Thursday razed a plank market at Pipeline Street in the Ikotun area of Lagos.

A statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the inferno affected four shops.

Oke-Osanyintolu said that the prompt response of the Agency’s Dolphin Response Team from Igando, and efficient coordination of other responders at the scene, curtailed the spread of fire to adjoining buildings.

According to him, preliminary investigations could not ascertain the cause of the fire at the time of reporting the incident.

The LASEMA permanent secretary also disclosed that there was no loss of lives and no injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.

This followed a report of another fire outbreak at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, FIIRO, office in Oshodi earlier in the day.

LASEMA confirmed that the fire ignited as a result of overheating of the generator.

The fire was also curtailed and there was no loss of life due to the incident and no injuries were sustained.

Reasons Why Many Women Are Unmarried in Their 30s – Kanayo O. Kanayo

Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has explained why many women are unmarried in their 30s.

According to him, the choices they made when they were younger were responsible for their singleness.
He said most women who are unmarried in their 30s spent their 20s dating married older men while rejecting young prospective husbands.

Speaking in a recent interview with News Central, Kanayo said, “Some girl will be in the university at 18, 19, 20, she starts dating a very rich guy, sometimes, very old too. Then what you see along the line is that because the guy is very rich and probably married, she refuses the advances of other younger people because the guy has either gotten her a car or a house. So to her, she’s operating on a very high level.

“From 22, she goes on to 24 and maybe even if she quarrels with this guy, she gets the next guy. And before you know it, she turns 25, 26 unmarried because she refuses the advances of younger prospective husbands. She gets into 29 and 30, and by that time she has left the university and men are no longer finding her that attractive.

“So she gets into 31, husband is not coming. And what do you have? At 23, she’s a flex. At 28, she becomes a prayer point. After 33, she’s declared a state of emergency. Because husbands will not come at that level of 33 years. Some of them get to 35 unmarried.

And they still think that they are having fun. They are not having fun. They are now in a state of emergency praying that God brings anyone.”

Nigerians will experience additional reductions in fuel prices in 2025, according to the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced that Nigerians can expect further reductions in the prices of petroleum products, particularly fuel, even into next year. Chinedu Ukadike, the National Public Relations Officer of IPMAN, shared this assurance during an interview with the New Telegraph.

Ukadike described the recent decrease in fuel prices as a result of competition between the Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd). He stated, "The price war that has led to the reduction in the prices of petroleum products, especially fuel, is a testament to the benefits of deregulation. We now have two major sources of petroleum products: Dangote and NNPC Ltd. This has created a competing environment for marketers."

He further explained that as Dangote increases production, the company will seek to establish partnerships, particularly with IPMAN and other stakeholders, to ensure the efficient distribution of its products. Ukadike referred to the deal with MRS as a significant move to ensure that petroleum products reach consumers at a reduced price, calling it a “Christmas bonanza from Dangote.” He added, "The product price will continue to decrease. There will be further price reductions as competition against a sole producer intensifies.”

Reports indicate that as of Monday, December 23, petrol was sold at N925 per litre at many NNPC Ltd outlets in Lagos, while in Abuja it was priced at N965 per litre. On November 24, 2024, Dangote lowered fuel prices from N990 per litre to N970 for marketers.

Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) attributed the price reduction to the company's appreciation for Nigerians and support for the government. Last Thursday, Chiejina announced another petrol price reduction to N899.50k, which he described as a "holiday bonanza." He also mentioned that the company introduced a special offer to further benefit consumers.

In addition to the holiday discount, Dangote Petroleum Refinery is allowing customers to purchase an extra litre of fuel on credit for every litre bought in cash. "To alleviate transport costs during this holiday season, Dangote Refinery is offering a holiday discount on PMS. From today, our..."

Shipper's Council to check discrepancies in Ports Operations, want Port Regulatory Agency Bill signed into law.

The Nigerian Shippers' Council (NSC) has called on stakeholders in the Maritime sector to support its Shipping and Port Economic Regulatory Agency Bill 2023 into law.
Executive Secretary of the Council, Barrister Akutah Pius made the call at the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) 2024 annual conference and awards on Thursday in Lagos with the theme: "Nigeria's Maritime Industry Under the Renewed Hope Agenda: What is New?"
The bill, when it becomes law, he explained would enhance regulatory authority, enforce compliance, regulate charges, improve efficiency, eliminate exploitative practices, bring about fairer trade conditions and fast dispute resolution, amongst others.
According to him, the bill will also boost maritime competitiveness based on global best practices and position Nigeria as a regional hub for shipping.
Akutah, who was represented by the Director of Strategic Planning and Research, Rotimi Anifowose, while speaking on the topic, "Achieving a Profitable Port System: NSC Duty as Port Economic Regulator", said all hands must be on deck to see it actualised.

" He stated, and I qu,ote, " There are so many things that we can fix, not because we cannot fix them, but because we need to put structures on the ground that will fix them. If you are talking about port efficiency, there is a need for regulatory functions to be addressed.
" If you are talking about effective trade facilitation, there is also a need for the port economic regulation to be addressed". Anifowose explained
Speaking on some of the recent achievements of the NCS, he said the Council had signed a formal bond with the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy in May 2024, facilitated the official commissioning of the Funtua Inland Dry Port, negotiated and facilitated the signing of the agreement on minimum standards of provision of service for maritime workers who were hitherto being treated like slaves.
He listed others to include the elimination of incidences of illegal capital flight and also the development of a mobile application that provides real-time trade, shipping and logistic information to industry stakeholders.
According to him, these efforts by the council committed to making sure that the Renewed Hope Agenda for the maritime sector is realised and for Nigeria to take its rightful place in the global market.
"If not 90 per cent, 85 per cent of the cargo in Lome Port are Nigeria bound. What we have is just in shipment. We need to put our hands on deck " he revered
"Mr Anifowose stated that the Cusoms are getting revenue from the government and can do more with the creation of a conducive environment that will improve and exporters have confidence in the ports.
"That's why we must all come together and support the Nigerian Shippers' Council drive to make this reform an act so that the effective port economic regulatory function can be attained". he stated

Osimhen Makes Galatasaray's Substitute Bench on Injury Comeback.

Victor Osimhen is back in Turkish Super Lig  action for Galatasaray at home against Trabzonspor.

The Napoli loanee is on Gala's substitute bench after a minor muscle injury kept him briefly on the sidelines.

If subbed on, Osimhen could come face-to-face with fellow Nigerian star Anthony Nwakaeme who is listed as a starter, donning jersey number 9.

Nwakaeme returned from injury to score his first goal, an equaliser, for Trabzonspor last week to keep his team one place above relegation in 15th place.

Galatasaray top the standings on 38 points from 14 matches, three points ahead of second-placed Fenerbache.

FG Targets 2,000 Renewed Hope City, To Restore Unused Buildings through PPP, As Minister Pays Working Visit to Lagos By Abiola PETERS

All is set for the groundbreaking of the Two Thousand Renewed Hope City in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, by President Bola Tinubu, to cover the Southwest region of the country.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Danginwa, who stated this during an inspection of federal government buildings in Lagos, said that the President would later be in Kano to do the groundbreaking that will cater for the North Central region.
Architect Danginwa said he had earlier met with Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, and they both agreed to a Tripartite Committee that would resolve all issues concerning housing and lands between the federal and state governments.
According to the Minister, one of such issues is the integrity and security concerns of unrehabilitated federal government buildings, stating that some will be taken care of with budgetary expenses, while the Private sector will be engaged for others for rent and eventually revenue for the federal government.

Architect Danginwa, who had earlier visited the Fields Headquarters Office, housing over forty federal government offices at Tafawa Balewa Square, acknowledged the deplorable state of the facility with a promise to ensure the upgrade and improve the work conditions of the staff.
Earlier, the Controller of Housing, Lagos, Town Planner Funmilayo Olayiwola, had listed a lack of power supply, water, dilapidated structures and obsolete operational vehicles as part of the challenges in the Headquarters and some other offices, thereby limiting the productivity of staff.

Sweating it out at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne, Ogun State, the 30 invited Nigerian boy, under the supervision of coaches Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu continued their workout for the match.
Only the Enyimba FC duo of goalkeeper Henry Ozoemena and defender Imo Obot were excused from the preparation because of continental engagement.
Both players were in action in Enyimba's 2-2 draw against visiting Zamalek of Egypt in last weekend's CAF Confederation Cup group stage tie in Uyo Akwa Ibom State.
The eventual arrival of the players could add to the intensity of the workout in Ikenne as Nigeria counts down to the first leg against Ghana.
The intense rivalry with Ghana on the field of play aside, the Super Eagles B see this month’s qualifying fixture as an opportunity to regain their pride of place in the hearts of Nigerian ball fans, having missed out on two consecutive editions of CHAN.
Togo ensured Nigeria’s absence from the 2021 finals, with the Hawks gaining a 4-1 win in Togo.
A 2-0 win in Lagos by Nigeria was not enough to overturn the advantage.
In the qualifiers for the last edition hosted by Algeria, the Ghanaian team won 2-0 at home and lost by the same margin in Abuja, only to snatch the ticket after a penalty shootout.
The stage is set for another home-and-away clash between Nigeria and Ghana in the 2024 qualifying.
Winners on aggregate between both nations after the second leg in Uyo on 29 December 2024 will qualify for CHAN 2024 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 1-28 February 2025.

Tax reform to transform economy – CITN.

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria has expressed support for the tax bills, which are before the National Assembly, claiming that they would boost the economy.
CITN President/Chairman of Council Samuel Agbeluyi expressed his support on Wednesday during a workshop for tax and finance reporters in Lagos.
He stated that the tax bills before the NASS have been generating nationwide debate with stakeholders pitching for and against them.
According to him, the four tax reform bills, which were transmitted to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu on October 3, 2024, have passed through a second reading despite protests against them from the North.
Agbeluyi noted that the institute is closely monitoring and contributing its quota to the current activities of the current government as it relates to taxation and fiscal policy modifications.
He said “It is not in doubt that since its inauguration in May 2023, the current Nigerian government has demonstrated the political will and a strong commitment to overhauling the nation’s tax system, to reduce dependency on oil revenues and promote fiscal stability.
“After painstaking and exhaustive work, the output and recommendations of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms have given rise to the Economic Stabilisation Bills currently under legislative consideration and scrutiny at the National Assembly.
“As expected with major tax reforms anywhere, it has elicited a lot of concerns and reactions from stakeholders. CITN welcomes this great effort by the current government in envisioning and pushing for these tax reforms, which are necessary at this point in our national life.”
He pointed out that the bills were capable of transforming the tax space in Nigeria, addressing systemic challenges that had bedevilled the effectiveness of the country’s tax system.
He added that it could engender an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, noting that concerns about the bill be based on facts and figures.
“At the level of the Institute, while we participated at one level or the other in the process leading to the drafting of the bills under reference, we still have some observations in the bills, which we will present at the public hearing on the bills,” he concluded.
Stakeholders have been complaining about the over 65 taxes in the country, advocating that they should be streamlined.
Meanwhile, the Senate on Wednesday suspended action on the tax reform bills.
It further instructed the Committee on Finance to suspend action on the public hearing pending the time the agitation in the public space is addressed.
The Senate further constituted a special committee to meet with the executive branch and work with the Federal Government to resolve the issues surrounding the tax reform bills.

Oversubscription of ongoing Recapitalisation Offers Boosts Strong Investor Confidence.

The Securities and Exchange Commission ( SEC) has charged banks to strengthen their corporate governance principles and risk management framework to enhance investors’ confidence in the ongoing recapitalisation exercise.

Speaking at the annual workshop of the Capital Market Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CAMCAN) in Lagos at the weekend, SEC Director-General, Dr Emomotimi Agama, reiterated the commission’s commitment towards ensuring transparency and efficiency in the  ongoing recapitalisation process.

Dr Emomotimi Agama, who was represented by the Divisional Head, Legal and Enforcement of the SEC), Mr John Achile, explained that the framework on the banking sector recapitalisation (2024–2026) provided clear guidance for issuers while also safeguarding the interests of investors.

He stated that the key to bridging the gap between issuers and investors remained the harnessing of innovation for inclusive growth.
In view of this, he pointed out that SEC, through the aid of digital platform, is exploring the integration of blockchain technology for secure and transparent transaction processing, a step that will redefine trust in the market.

Dr Agama noted that the oversubscription of most recapitalisation offers in 2024 reflects strong investor confidence.

According to him,”To sustain this momentum, he said SEC has intensified efforts to enhance disclosure standards and corporate governance practices.

He said expanding financial literacy campaigns and collaborating with fintech companies to provide low-entry investment options will democratize access to the capital market.

He assured stakeholders of the commission’s steadfastness  in achieving its mission of creating an enabling environment for seamless and transparent capital formation.
“Our efforts are anchored on; providing issuers with clear guidelines and maintaining open lines of communication with all market stakeholders, reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks through digitalisation, ensuring timely review and approval of applications, and enhancing regulatory oversight to protect investors while promoting market integrity,” he said.
Agama listed the constraints to the exercise to include: addressing market volatility, systemic risks, limited retail participation as well as combating skepticism among investors who demand greater transparency and accountability.
“We are equally presented with opportunities which include leveraging technology to deepen financial inclusion and enhance market liquidity, as well as developing innovative financial products, such as green bonds and sukuk, to attract diverse investor segments.

He stressed that the success of recapitalisation efforts depends on collaboration among regulators, issuers, and investors.

Speaking on market infrastructure at the panel session, Achile said SEC provides oversight to every operations in the market, ranging from technology innovations to market infrastructure.

“We are committed to transparency  because we are mindful of the benefits and risks associated with technology adoption. SEC does due diligence to all the innovative ideas that comes into the market to ensure adequate compliance with the requirements,” he said.

On the rising unclaimed dividend figure, he blamed the inability of investors to comply with regulatory requirements and information gap, noting that SEC has done everything within its powers to ensure that investors receive their dividend at the appropriate time.

However, he  assured that the commission would continue to strengthen its dual role of market regulation and investor protection to boost confidence in the market.

A Revolutionary Advancement in DNA Technology: Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) is now launching in Nigeria!

A Leap Forward in DNA Technology, As NGS Launches In Nigeria

In the last few years, paternity issues have been on the increase. Partly, this is because texts have shown that men who felt they are there were the biological fathers of fathers' children have turned out to be negative.
Some tests which are carried out by the al Conventional Electrophoresis (CE) method have some limitations such as the number of tests that can be carried out at a go the long awaiting waitingr the result of the test and there had been questions as to the authenticity of such tests, as well as having to send specimen outside the country.
To effectively tackle these challenges and more, Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) Technology, a cutting-edge solution that quickly improves the accuracy of DNA testing, is now operational in Nigeria.
Explaining in detail detailing features of the technology, the Chief Executive Officer, and CEO of OncoGenomics Laboratory, Dr Paul Druola, at a news briefing in Lagos, noted that the NGS analyze about 1,000 DNA markers compared to CE’s 15–23 and presents a higher level of accuracy and reliability.
This initiative, which is the first of its kind in Nigeria and West Africa, is led by OncoGenomics Laboratory in collaboration with Karygene and ISN Medical. Beyond paternity disputes, NGS technology has broad applications, including forensic investigations, disaster victim identification, and early cancer detection.
Faduola explained further, “The more markers you analyze, the more accurate the result, but in this case, Traditional methods may exclude biological fathers due to limitations in their marker scope, whereas NGS reduces such errors.”
He said, and I qu,ote, "Though the report stated that Nigeria ranks second globally in reported cases of paternity fraud, Faduola argued that the true scale might be even larger due to outdated testing methods. “Inaccuracies can arise not because the alleged fathers aren’t biological parents but due to the constraints of the testing technology".
For now, the NGS testing is Two hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250,00) client cathe and access services.
Faduola boosts, despite the costs, NGS will save Ni rains, millions spent on sending DNA samples abroad. " We are not just competing on price but on precision. Our goal is to end the reliance on foreign labs and establish Nigeria as a hub for advanced genetic testing,” he added
Speaking on regulation in Nigeria, he pointed out that there is a lack of regulation in Nigeria's testing industry, which has room for questionable practices to continue and emphasised the importance of educating the public about the differences between CE and NGS technologies. “It’s your right to ask what testing method is being used,” he urged, adding that transparency will build trust in local facilities.
Having introduced the new technology, NGS, Faduola believes that a future where Nigeria develops a robust DNA database, similar to those in advanced countries is possible.
“This is not just about solving individual cases but about building a foundation for research, public health, and crime-solving capabilities,. This is just the beginning, " This technology will not only serve individuals but will elevate Nigeria’s standing in global genetic research and diagnostics,” he stated
The Sales Specialist ISN Medical, Olakunle Awojobi, highlighted the significance of the initiative, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize DNA testing in the country. “The story about Nigeria being the number two country in the world for paternity fraud is true, and it’s likely underreported.
He explained further, " NGS technology offers unparalleled accuracy compared to the commonly used CE method, which many labs in Nigeria rely on. It is Nigerians need to cautious their labs are using—NGS or CE—because it makes a critical difference in the results.
Reaffirming the suggestions by Faduola, Awojobi explained that the introduction of NGS technology would not only improve the accuracy of results but also eliminate the need to send samples out of the country. “We are collaborating with facilities across Nigeria to make NGS more accessible.
"Our plan We planlish at least five bases nationwide, ensuring coverage in the northern and southern regions, adding that, it will help facilities maximize their investment, accelerate result turnaround, and strengthen local capacity,” Awojobi said.
Awojobi, who can, who knows the financial situation of some labs, assured them of the economic benefits of partnering with ISN Medical. “ The more samples processed locally, the faster the results and the more cost-effective the process becomes".
" Our aim We amakea network of collection and ttesting testingccentresNGS technology reaches more Nigerians,” he stated.

He noted that the award came as a surprise and described the programme as an interesting one, which he believed had greatly broadened ned the horizon of everyone present.
Afizu explained that Nigeria loses more than one billion naira annually in the GDP to malaria, which is a current topic, and the research work is evidence that more work needs to be done to eliminate malaria from Nigeria by the year 2030.
Another fellow who received an award of recognition, Director of Research and consultant paediatrician at the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research, Mrs Agaba Nkiruka, said that the Programme had given her a boost.
"We gather a lot of students, both interns and sites; we are not a primary teaching institution but a medical research institute'.
She expressed dismay that despite the importance of research to any country, most people are still not in tune with what research stands for, pointing out that research demands a lot of funds,s, which does not come easy. " but despite the challenges, researchers still put their best to ensure maximum improvement.
